Maintaining a workout routine is important for a healthy lifestyle. More often than not, once most people establish a workout routine they stick to it. Consistency and focus are key factors to staying in shape. However, doing the some thing over and over for a long period of time can become boring. Once someone reaches workout boredom they often lose their motivation to workout. This is when you know it’s time to change things up.
The first step to curing workout boredom is to do something completely different than your norm. If you are used to going to the gym every time you workout, it’s time to hike a mountain, run the bleachers at a high school track, or jog your neighborhood. Get out and see the world while getting some cardio in. Add the outdoors into your workout a few times a week, who ever said you had to go to a gym to stay in shape? The second step to curing workout boredom is to boost your intensity. Time yourself and kick things up a notch while doing cardio. Add extra weight to your sets when strength training. Bring a friend along to push you or maybe you’ll be pushing them. Purchase a set of weights for home and after your outdoor cardio you add a little strength training to your routine.
Changing things up in your workout routine will help to avoid boredom from doing the same things again and again. You will also avoid hitting a plateau; you always want your body to respond to your efforts and stay tone. The more variety you add to your workout, the more likely you are to stick with it. Different activities help keep you mentally and physically challenged.
