Jealousy is like a monster that sneaks up and bites you when you least expect it. It can happen to any couple despite what stage your relationship is in. Humans are not typically jealous by nature, however jealousy strikes from an event, action or state of affairs that occur. Jealousy is a powerful reaction most often involving love.
Insecurities in a relationship, competition or lack betrayal can cause jealousy to creep in. Suspicions and uncertain emotions take over and cause worry and a lack of trust with a partner.
If one decides there is a threat to their lover, our mind tend to take over
and it is difficult to avoid the overwhelming emotion of jealousy. Jealousy can create a wide variety of emotions and responses. One may become overly dependent of their partner, violent rage and anger may come into play, self-criticism and depression are typical reactions to the jealous emotion. However, the good news is there are ways to conquer and overcome jealousy.
Ways to handle jealousy:
1) Isolate the cause of jealousy. Determine who or what it is and dig deep to discover why you are jealous.
2) Once you determine the cause work to eliminate it. Open lines of communication with your partner. Share your feelings and listen to their response.
3) Stay true to your unique self. If you feel loved for who you are, jealousy won’t arise.
